Who Shall Roll the Stone Away?
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? Mark 16: 1-3
I love this passage what a great example of doing what you can and trusting God to do what He can.
Jesus has died on the cross and placed in a tomb with a large rock as a door and Roman guards so no one could take the body. Yet, these women it says got their spices and were on their way to anoint His body, the odds of them entering the tomb was not so great.
What can you and I learn from this passage, I believe is such a benefit for our daily walk. So, let’s unpack this passage and see how it applies to us today.
First, the stone was a real problem, just like the problems we face today are real. The women acknowledged the stone was there and asked who will roll it away? You might be facing something that looks impossible today, acknowledge it is real, but don’t stop there.
The stone was enormous just like some of our problems. There was a guard or opposition to moving it themselves, just like the enemy of our soul resists us doing what God places in our hearts to do.
They came anyway!
In the midst of this great opposition these women chose to get the spices and travel to the tomb. It was not after they did what they could do that they asked the question, “who will roll away the stone?”
Three simple characteristics stand out with these ladies. First, they had an expectation that the stone would be rolled away. Second, they came in faith which in required if we are going to do what God puts in our heart. Finally, they were humble, these women served Jesus in his life and in his burial. Now the Good News is:
And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. Mark 16:4-7
Just like these women we need to do what we can and know to do with an expectation that God will do the supernatural. Luke 18:27 says, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
I don’t know what your facing today but do what God puts in your heart expecting Him to do His part. God is a God of supernatural doings and we need to expect Him to do it.
Do all you know to do with and move towards that situation with faith, humility, and expectation and you’ll always see God show up!
The Stone has been Rolled Away and Jesus lives!!!!!
