Daily Devotion #2
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20
This verse talk about who you walk with or who do you keep company with has a bearing on how you act. If you walk with wise men then you will be wise it says.
Jim Rohn said, ““You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” We have to ask ourselves are we spending time with people that take up our time or add to us.
Being wise isn’t being a know it all but being able to make decisions and do the right things based on that wisdom. We need wisdom especially in today’s world to make the right decisions.
On the other hand if we keep company with fools we will be destroyed it says. Foolish people make foolish decisions they let their emotions dictate what they do or don’t do.
I am reminded of Rehoboam in the Bible who became king and the people asked him to lighten their burdens. The scripture in 1 Kings says he first went to the elders and asked what they thought he should do, but rejected their advice to lighten the load.
Then he went to the younger men who were his friends and they said increase the load which is what he did. That decision cost him the kingdom in the long run because the people rebelled against him.
You and I need to choose who we allow to speak into our lives carefully. If we choose those who are foolish it could cost us in many ways. If we choose wise counsel it could benefit us in many ways. Choose wisely.
Lord help us to choose our companions with care let us choose wise men and women to speak into our lives. Let us always choose wisdom over foolishness. In Jesus Name Amen
