Daily Devotion #3
In all labor there is profit,
But idle chatter leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23
Labor simply means work. When we labor or work there is a profit. In other words you earn an income which is what you gain for your work. Notice it says in all labor.
I’ve heard ministers talk like all you have to do is believe and God just magically fills your accounts. Or that work is under a curse which is not true. God gave Adam the task of tending the garden even before he gave him Eve. Lesson get a job before you marry…
When Adam sinned his labor became more difficult, because the ground now became cursed. When we gave our hearts to Christ we were delivered from that curse, thank you Jesus!
The key to enjoying your labor is finding what your calling is and then develop it and become great at it. Our work is not intended to be a curse but a blessing. We are to be equipped to witness and pray for those we labor with.
The scripture goes on to say that idle chatter leads to poverty. These are people that always have great ideas or they could be gossips but they don’t do anything they spend more time talking than working.
In today’s society it is so easy to get drawn into conversations about politics and the state of America and neglect the work before us. Cable news’s main purpose is to create fear and distrust of others which is totally opposite of what God wants for us. He wants us to walk in faith not fear.
Lord help me and those that read this to refrain from idle chatter and instead labor for you. Help those that don’t know their calling or gifts to find them and then put them to use for the Kingdom. Thank you for answering our prayers in Jesus Name Amen!
