Daily Devotion #8
Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,
But who can find a faithful man? Proverbs 20:6
It is in man’s nature to proclaim his goodness. They will tell others of how good they are how they have done better than others. Often times they point out other men’s sins and short comings in order to make themselves look good.
These kind of men usually have low self esteem. They have the world’s mentality of I have to brag and tell others how good I am because I know not what God thinks about me. Their spouses often point out their short comings or their parent’s expectations of them were higher than they could meet.
Many times ministers feel a need to boast about their holiness because they are convicted or struggling with the very thing they boast about. If you will listen to people talk long enough you know their struggles because they always refer back to it. Pray for them.
Who can find a faithful man, the writer asks. Faithful means
established, i.e. (figuratively) trusty; also (abstractly) trustworthiness. Men who do what is expected without boasting or telling others.
These men do what is right daily, they are men of their word and keep promises. When struggles come they don’t get angry and take it out on others but know that God is their source of help. They are fathers and husbands that daily get up and cover their family with prayer.
These men work at jobs with integrity and people know they can count on them to get the job done. They know that deeds speak louder than words.
Lord help us to not boast about our good works but about Your good works. Help us to be faithful and trustworthy. Forgive us for our shortcomings and help us to be people of action. In Jesus Name Amen
