Daily Devotion #9
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
I love this verse because I’ve seen it first hand in my own life. After attending church as a teenager, I fell away from God for over ten years. My mom prayed for me and eventually I returned to the Lord and I can honestly say it was because I remembered the things I had been taught in church.
Raising children in today’s world is a daunting task there are so many things that want their attention. There are so many beliefs in the world today that try to lure them in as well. That makes it so important to instill in your children early on God’s Word and character to navigate life and not compromise.
My seven year old son memorizes scripture daily and remembers what my wife and I have taught him about God. It is our responsibility to teach him the things of God. I’ve heard religious people say the mind matters little as a Christian but the mind according to scripture is the one thing we need to renew and is a gate way to our spirit man. The problem is the mind takes effort and people rely too much on emotion. I could write a whole blog on the danger of emotion and need to renew the mind but I’ll save that for another time.
I heard a lady share how she had experienced a tragedy in her adult life that was very difficult to deal with. She told of how as a young girl she had memorized 52 scriptures for a contest prize, it was in this most difficult time all of those comforting scriptures came up in her spirit. David said, “Your word have I hid in my heart.” Hide God’s Word in your heart.
Mom’s don’t quit praying for those children you raised to come back to God. Hold onto God’s Word that they will return to the way of the Lord.
Father God help us to raise our children right. Spending time to teach them your ways. Protect them from this world and keep them with your Word from harm. Lord for the children that have strayed draw them back by your spirit. Lord of the harvest send laborers into the field to reach each one of these children with your love. In Jesus Name Amen
