In life we all are faced with change and disrupting of plans made. We make plans set goals and make the effort to reach those goals only to find out our perception of something was off or something distracts and takes us away from the path. In this blog I want to introduce you to a mindset that if embraced will empower you to keep going with joy towards the goals you’ve set.

The Apostle Paul made plans only to have them be rejected. In Acts 16 Luke tells of how Paul intended to go to Asia but was not permitted by the Spirit.

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit[a] did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them. Acts 16:6-10

Often we are told in the Church world to wait on God to direct our paths but it’s obvious Paul wasn’t waiting he intended to and attempted to enter Asia. The scripture never says, “God told him to go” instead he set our to go so he could preach the good news.

Many times we have to make an effort before God tells us what is next. Just like Abram when told of a land he didn’t have the locality but when he started moving he knew where to go. So too Paul set out to go but was forbidden when he got there which is often the case with life. We intend to do something only to find out that God didn’t call us to do it or direct us to do it.

When faced with denial Paul then tried to go to Bithynia but the Spirit didn’t permit them to enter there either. You might be thinking that Paul was constantly led by the Spirit and maybe he was but no where in this passage does it say the Spirit led him there.

When faced with adversity or opposition we often attribute it to the devil but I think more often than not the Spirit is not permitting us to do the thing we wanted to do. It is then that we have to be aware and open to letting the Spirit lead us to the door He intended for us to enter.

After two denials from the Spirit then Paul had a vision on one calling him to Macedonia. Paul was not afraid to make an adjustment to the direction he was going. This is a shift!

We all are faced with obstacles in life sometimes self inflicted sometimes we just miss what God wants us to do. It is during these times we have to make adjustments or a shifting of our sails in order to do what God desires us to do.

The main obstacle hindering most from doing what the Spirit is telling them is pride. People will tell you God told them to do something then when the Spirit forbids them they blame it on the devil because they don’t or can’t admit they missed God.

Humility is an ingredient for greatness!

Be humble and list to what the Spirit is telling you so you can do all that God has called you to do. Remember you obedience is key to seeing God not only move in your life but also others!

Today where do you have to make a shift!
