I recently talked with an old friend on mine from college. We use to communicate quite often but distance, family, work etc.. caused us to fall out of touch. The funny thing about my friend is when we talk we take up right where we left off.
We share our current situations, dreams, goals and what God is sharing with us. If you heard us it would be like we live next door to each other. I enjoy listening to him share what’s happening in his church and family.
One thing about our friendship is we share our struggles and our victories. We share how God encourages us and how he corrects us.
He ask me questions about my dreams and goals often giving thought provoking that cause me to see a side I hadn’t yet. I do the same.
We encourage each other and even challenge each other to reach for more. Becoming who God has designed me to be requires this interaction.
Proverbs 27:17 AMP says, ”As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].”
This verse is exactly how my friend and I keep each other sharp. Through our discussion we sharpen each other. We encourage, correct and lift each other up in our discussion.
God created us for community! He designed us to interact with others to keep sharp and therefore fulfill our purpose on earth.
Do you have someone that sharpens you?
